Tachybaptus ruficollis: Little Grebe
The Little Grebe is another one of those birds too cute to be real. They're quite small and have stumpy (almost non-existent) tails. And yet... here they are.
Grebes are the only birds with lobed feet. They're effective swimmers because of a) those feet and b) their legs are set really far back on their bodies. The trade-off? They can't move very well on land.
This small bird, also known as a dabchick, can be found throughout Europe, Africa and Asia.
