"Birds will give you a window, if you allow them. They will show you secrets from another world - fresh vision that, though it is avian, can accompany you home and alter your life. They will do this for you even if you don't know their names - though such knowing is a thoughtful gesture. They will do this for you if you watch them." ~ Lyanda Lynn Haupt, Rare Encounters with Ordinary Birds

Sitta canadensis: Red-breasted Nuthatch
For the last few days I've been infatuated with birds that are more body than tail. Not sure why. Sometimes I'm fascinated by bills, sometimes (usually) by feet (seriously, take a good look at a bird's feet and then tell me they're not dinosaurs). I like parrots (for their beauty and their smarts) and sometimes (often) I like looking at the strong, sexy birds of prey... I'm always amazed that birds can be found in so many different shapes and sizes.
Anyway, right now it's the stumpy-tailed birds I'm drawn to (pardon the pun).
Doodled from a photo in Birds of North America.
