"Birds will give you a window, if you allow them. They will show you secrets from another world - fresh vision that, though it is avian, can accompany you home and alter your life. They will do this for you even if you don't know their names - though such knowing is a thoughtful gesture. They will do this for you if you watch them." ~ Lyanda Lynn Haupt, Rare Encounters with Ordinary Birds

Perisoreus canadensis: Gray Jay
Another corvid, another beggar and thief. Actually, a very cute beggar. Several years ago while on a hike in the Mt. Hood National Forest, I noticed gray birds shadowing me on the trail. At one point I stopped to put a band-aid on a blister and the birds started coming close. I put out a hand and they would come and land looking for handouts.
Seemed like magic at the time, and it made me feel special. I know they do that for everybody, but it was still very, very cool.
Doodle from a photo on the Wikipedia page for the Gray Jay.
