Charadrius wilsonia: Wilson's Plover

I love plovers and sandpipers. They're a gas to watch as they run along the shoreline. Actually, we have a few in this neck of the woods that don't seem to need a shoreline, but that's another story.

The Wilson's Plover is a coastal shorebird whose range extends up much of the U.S. east coast, and the Mexican west coast. According to the Wikipedia article, they like crabs, but also eat insects and marine worms.

Oh, and guess where they're nesting right now?

Right... the Gulf Coast.

Doodled from this photo.
